Goldfinch – Henequen Hanging Lamp
Goldfinch – Henequen Hanging Lamp
Henequen is a species of plant from the Agave genus. This plant is native to the state of Yucatan in Mexico, where it was cultivated by the Mayans in pre-Hispanic times. They called it “Ki” in the Mayan language. It was domesticated at that time due to the usefulness of its fibers, especially for the manufacture of ropes and cordage. Even after the conquest, its production and exploitation was so fruitful that it became an important agroindustry, and products derived from henequen began to be sold to increasingly distant places until they reached the American and European markets.
